Over the years, as I have been maturing in sanctification and in learning to walk with the Lord, I find that I am often times convicted regarding the passage found in Ezekiel 16, which reads:

As surely as I live, declares the Lord GOD, your sister Sodom and her daughters never did as you and your daughters have done. Now this was the iniquity of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed, and complacent; they did not help the poor and needy. Thus they were haughty and committed abominations before Me.” Ezekiel 16:48-50 (Berean Bible – read all of chapter 16 for context)

When I was first saved I used to think, and somewhat resented, and even wrongly complain against God’s sovereignty, being born in the United States where we have absolutely everything and dispose of so very much. Over time and growing in the true knowledge of Christ, I firmly believe what Paul Washer, Missionary and Founder of HeartCry Missionary Society has said over the years, and I paraphrase, “You either go done into the well, or you hold the rope for those who go down; either way there ought to be scars on your hands.” Add to this, I recently heard him say, and fully agree, “If we are strong, we are strong to help the weak. If we have opportunity of an education, we help those of our brothers and sisters who have had no opportunity. If we have wealth, it is for our brothers and sisters who have none.” (Taken from Comprehending God’s Love)

In late 2008-2011 I volunteered as a mission representative with two different global missions organizations. I remember a statistic that blew my mind that stated, and again I paraphrase as I cannot find the direct quote any longer: “In 2007 out of all the U.S. church giving, only 3% left the country, and out of this 3%, only 0.3% went to the 10-40 window, where 2/3rds of the world population live and the poorest of the poor dwell.” Although I have lost the direct links to these stats, below goes to basically prove the same, actually worse.

I hope with all of the Bible rebinding that I do, and although we are only a one income family, I hope to somehow begin to team up with like minded brothers and sisters to purchase Bibles (and do more Lord willing) for people all over the world.

Read the statistics below, and let this sink in deeply and personally. Then do what the Lord would have of you.

WHAT CHRISTIANS EARN:

Annual Income of all Church Members: $53 trillion. (Evangelical Christians earn approximately $6.72 trillion)

WHAT PEOPLE GIVE:

Only 1.5% is “tithed” to any Christian causes:  $896 billion.

“Americans have recently spent more money buying Halloween costumes for their pets than the amount given to reach the unreached.”

— Claude Hickman
  • 82% goes to Home ministries of local churches (mostly Christian nations):  $734 billion
  • 12% goes to Home Evangelism in same Christian nations:  $107.5 billion
  • Only 6% of this “tithe” goes to anything Missions:  $52 billion ( 5.8%, 2022).

WHERE DOES THE MISSIONS MONEY GO? NOT TOO FAR.

  • Only 1.7% of “Missions Giving” goes to work among Unreached Peoples   Estimated $880 million (1.7% of the $52b for anything “missions”)
  • For every $100,000 that Christians make, they give $1.70 to the unreached.

“If you were in a ballroom with a 50ft ceiling and this height represented what Christians earned, you could kneel down and stand two dollar bills, end to end, to see what Christians tithe, then to see what makes it to the unreached you would have to lay both bills flat on the floor. Roughly 1/2 mm.

— Claude Hickman
